    This is a fascinating dry Scharzhofberger from the Pergentsknopp plot. The 2016 is as fine and filigreed as it is intense and complex. The finish, however, is mind blowing, Van Volxem's 2016 Pergentsknopp is the finest dry Scharzhofberger I have ever tasted and one of the finest dry German Rieslings I have tasted from this more than excellent and digestible vintage. What great tension here. This is powerhouse of a Riesling. The combination of purity, tension and complexity is fabulous here.

    JANCIS ROBINSON - 19 / 20

    Spirity in a sense of eau de vie, with great purity, some notes of yellow fruit, but also a fragrant smidgeon resembling pencil shavings aka graphite. The Pergentsknopp manages to combine its rich texture and concentrated extract with a fresh expression of fleshy fruit, healthy acidity and mineral finish which shows plenty of edge without grating. 

    FALSTAFF - 96 / 100

    Typical for the location, balsamic and radiantly fresh, citrusy in the scent, very pure. Minerality oscillating in the mouth, with silky textures, relaxed and round, ripe, but structured acidity, a very subtle wine, tactile-minerality and fading slaty-spiciness.

    VINUM - 97 / 100

    You have to call the first place a sensation. ... For the first time since this wine guide was founded, a dry Riesling with 97/100 points is the highest-rated wine of the entire vintage and wine guide. And this wine comes from Van Volxem. It is also the first of the Mosel or Saar that has been able to top the best German dry wines. ... and a sign that the Mosel will play an important role in the area of dry Rieslings in the future.
