Fleurie《Grille Midi》

Although he is based in the Terres Dorées (golden earth) region of southern Beaujolais, this producer has an enviable palate of vineyards in the crus to the north. This wine comes from one. It has structure, density and a solid core of both tannins and rich fruit.
ROBERT PARKER - 94 / 100
The 2019 Fleurie Grille-Midi opens in the glass with notes of red fruit compote, cherries, rose petals and licorice. Medium to full-bodied, elegant and melting, with powdery tannins and lively acids, it's seamless and complete. If this isn't as dramatic out of the gates as its brilliant 2018 counterpart, it is, by the same token, more classically balanced and will delight purists. The 2019 vintage is a great success for Jean-Paul Brun, who described the wines as "more classically Beaujolais in style, as it wasn't as hot as 2018." The results are certainly very fine, and it's another excellent year for this vigneron who has done so much to validate the potential for quality in the southern Beaujolais. As readers will remember, the approach at this address is frequently described as "Burgundian," which is to say, destemmed fruit and macerations last as long as four weeks, followed by élevage in used barrels. Everything reviewed here once again comes warmly recommended.

Jean-Paul Brun's 66-year-old vines in this prime lieux-dit have yielded a superb 2018 Fleurie Grille-Midi, a striking wine that unfurls in the glass with complexaromas of black raspberries, rose petals, smoked meats and violets. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and satiny, with a bottomless core ofconcentrated fruit, velvety tannins and ripe acids, concluding with a long and sapid finish. This is a brilliant, age-worthy Fleurie worth special effort to track down.

Mid crimson. So pretty and perfumed. Explosive and expressive on the nose. Silky and fine on the palate. Really fine tannins, harmonious and elegant, entwined. Such lovely finesse with a juiciness within the dry tannic structure. A beauty that is light on its feet and very long.
